Exhibition Explores Indigenous Memory and Time | Through August 31
The Hudson River Museum’s exhibition Smoke in Our Hair: Native Memory and Unsettled Time delves into nuanced layers of time within contemporary art by Native American, Alaska Native, First Nations and Métis artists. The exhibition understands Native memory to be “both fluid and indelible,” and features work, some previously never shown on the East Coast, by artists that offer “critical reflections on working between those who came before them and those who will come after.” Gallery hours: Wed.-Fri. 12-5pm; Sat. & Sun. 11am-5pm.

Dia de la Cultura Paraguaya | May 10
As part of its Westchester Roots series, ArtsWestchester presents Dia de la Cultura Paraguaya, which will be Westchester’s 4th annual Paraguayan Independence Day celebration. Festivities will include traditional harp playing, Paraguayan polkas, indigenous Guaraní song and dance and more. The event will take place in ArtsWestchester’s gallery in White Plains at 7pm.

The Women Screening and Moxie Book Talk | May 13
Bedford Playhouse hosts a screening of The Women, the comedic 1939 classic staring Rosalind Russell, Norma Shearer and Joan Crawford. The film follows Mary Haines (Shearer) who hears gossip that her husband is having an affair with a salesgirl (Crawford). Before the film, author Ira Resnick will discuss his new book, Moxie, which details the careers of fifteen trailblazing old Hollywood actresses. At 6:30pm.

Yonkers Arts Weekend | May 17-18
Yonkers Arts Weekend returns for another year of pop-up exhibitions, musical performances and free art workshops across Yonkers, including The Hudson River Museum, Untermyer Park & Gardens, Carpet Mills Arts District, Blue Door Art Center, Philipse Manor Hall, Riverfront Library, MorDance, YoFi Digital Media and Art Center, and more. Westchester Craft Crawl | May 17-18
The artist-organized outdoor craft tour Westchester Craft Crawl will feature over 40 regional professional craft artists. Guests can visit three stops between Ossining and Croton. Each stop will host 12 or more artists and feature crafts made from a variety of materials, as well gourmet food and beverages. At 10am. Various locations. Flamenco Performance | May 22
A Palo Seco Flamenco Company takes the stage at Irvington Theater in Fieras, an original production by Rebeca Tomás performed by international flamenco dancers and musicians. The show is inspired by the stories of survivors of domestic violence and the Flamenco expression “Fiera,” which refers to “a fierce female energy full of strength and force.” Read more about this production in this ArtsNews article about a previous performance of Fieras. The performance takes place at 7pm.

Illuminated Lanterns Workshop for Adults | May 22
In honor of AAPI Heritage Month, New Rochelle Public Library hosts a lantern-making workshop for adults. Participants will use collage and tissue paper to create a one-of-a-kind lantern with an LED light. At 10am in the library’s Community Gallery.

Ali Banisadr: a History of the World
The contemporary works by artist Ali Banisadr, on view in a solo show at Katonah Museum of Art, are “rife with homages to artistic, literary and textbook history,” as he tackles memories from his upbringing in Iran during the Iran-Iraq war.
